学校创建于1983年，原为职业中学，1992年11月被评为省一级职业高中。1993年9月高初中分离，成为一所完全中学。1999年学校被评为市一级学校，2002年晋升为省一级学校。
学校实行一校两区，初高中分开办学的，两校区合计占地面积76603平方米。学校现有62个教学班(高中部30个班，初中部36个班)，在校学生约为3000人。
学校经过20多年的发展，学校师资力量雄厚、教学设施齐备、办学条件完善，走出了一条“以人为本、育人为先、注重特色”的办学路子，赢得了较高的社会声誉。
全校有标准塑胶跑道运动场两个，体育馆一个;理化生实验室等教学功能室共53个，电教平台44个，专任教师每人配备一台高配置的台式电脑，全校网络高速接入到各个教室和教室办公室，多媒体网络实验室2个。学生宿舍及学生食堂等生活设施完备。
